Debate on media freedom and pluralism / movie screening “The new watchdogs”

Submitted by on March 19, 2013 – 11:18No Comment

IHECS, Regie5 and the transnational coalition for media pluralism is most pleased to invite you to the launch of the first citizens’ initiative on media freedom and pluralism in Europe.

The screening of the film “The new watchdogs” by G. Balbastre and Y. Kergoat, will be followed by a debate with:

Gilles Balbastre, Co-director of the film and French journalist
Marc Gruber, Director of the European Federation of Journalists
Giovanni Melogli, Representative for European Affairs of the International Alliance of Journalists and co-organizer of the Initiative
Rui Tavares, MEP Group of the Greens / EFA

Political interference, excessive concentration of power in the hands of economic empires, conflicts of interest … The situation of freedom and media pluralism in the EU continues to deteriorate.
What can citizens do? What can the European Union do?

The citizens’ initiative is the first tool of transnational participatory democracy. It allows at least one million citizens from at least seven EU countries, to submit a legislative proposal to the European Commission.

Discover this tool and discuss it with us on Tuesday, March 26 at 18:30 IHECS, Velge lecture hall.
